Laughter

Good Morning!  Today’s power scripture comes from Psalm 126:2-3

"We will laugh and sing happy songs! Then the other nations will say, The Lord did a great thing for Zion! Yes, we will be happy because the Lord did a great thing for us,”

Let not your heart be troubled but find joy in all things. Life can bring challenges that weigh down upon the soul but the writer of the Psalm reminds us that we can find laughter and merriment in even the most disheartening things when we focus on the wonders of the Lord. Winter Storm Leon has changed the southern states into a frozen wasteland with stranded motorists; canceled flights; empty grocery store shelves and even hot tempers among the impatient and the inconvenienced. The media is quick to show us the plights and the sour underbelly of a society quick to point fingers of blame about unprepared first responders and unorganized city officials.

Today however, I looked outside of my frosted window to see my neighbor, his son and their dog frolicking in the crystalline snow.  For about 20 minutes that played and bantered about and even attempted to have a mock snowball fight.  The bitter cold finally drove them inside, but the laughter of the young boy and the playful barking of his German Shepherd gave me flashbacks of my outdoor winter fun times as a girl growing up in Gary, Indiana.  I laughed as I reminisced about the many mittens I lost and the giant safety pins mom finally used to join them to the cuff of my jacket sleeve. I can look back over all of the ways that God has blessed me and with a song in my spirit I can be joyful about my present circumstances.  Although I have been sequestered inside my home I am thankful that I have heat, light, water, food, cable and internet access.

So no matter what you are going through today; or under what circumstances you must endure, find some bright spot in it all and let joy flow freely.  It pleases God when we enjoy all that he has to offer.  We can not always just take dessert from the table that he has spread before us.  Everything that he provides has value and will bless us in the long run.  Enjoy a good laugh today. It is good for the soul.

Every day is a good day it is up to us to make it a GREAT power-filled day.  Be blessed! Dr. JoAnn
