Today’s power scripture comes from John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (ESV)
Most of us in the southern states are bracing once again for another onslaught of frigid weather. There are predictions of ice and snow storms that will rival those which shut down many of the metropolitan cities south of the Mason-Dixon line just over a week ago.. Today as I made my way home, I noticed the cramped parking lots of grocery and home improvement stores where patrons were bulking up on key items like bread, milk, eggs, firewood and generators. There are talks of potential power outages as ice coats and breaks electric lines. Schools are proactively closing until further notice and emergency response units are already being staged in strategic areas around the interloping highway systems.
Needless to say because of the crippling effect of the previous storm many are overdoing some preparations. Some are even panicking. Whether it is a physical atmospheric storm approaching or an unsettling event that is storming into your life; it is easy to fall into ‘crowd mentality’ when surrounded by others demonstrating chaotic behavior. God assures us that his peace is all-sustaining. We should remember that regardless of the situation we must hold our peace - even if we have to do it one step at a time. 1)Reaffirm that the joy of the Lord is your strength; 2) rebuke any feelings of disorder or anxiety; 3) focus on the simplest step to get away from the madness of the moment (leave the area, shut off your phone; take a nap); and 4) rehearse peace scriptures to establish your power over the situation.
Every day is a good day it is up to us to make it a GREAT power-filled day. Be blessed! Dr. JoAnn
